On November 17-18th, lecturers of the Faculty of Arts and Design of Vilniaus kolegija / Higher Education Institution, invited by the State Lithuanian Language Inspectorate, organized an exhibition of students’ calligraphy works during the conference “Linguistic Integration: Challenges for Immigrants and Lithuania”, which was held in the Reception Hall of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
Students of the Graphic Design and Interior Design study programmes of the Faculty of Arts and Design are introduced to the basics of calligraphy and font design during the first year of their studies. They are encouraged to understand the beauty of handwritten text and to be able to use various calligraphy writing tools. During the third year, students learn to combine various fonts, search for proportions, rhythm diversity, and manage the emotional impact of fonts.
The calligraphy works selected for this exhibition were created in the autumn of last year under the guidance of lecturers Virginija Kalinauskaitė and Rūta Mozūraitė. According to the Head of the VKI, Dr. Audrius Valotka, the students’ works attracted great interest from the conference participants and demonstrated the diversity of graphic expressions of the Lithuanian language.
