On October 3rd, Friday, at 2:00 p.m., Room 229 of the Faculty of Arts and Design at Vilnius College (Didlaukio St. 82) hosted a public performance by Musical Theatre students, showcasing the results of an intensive week-long masterclass.
Throughout the week, students worked with world-renowned director and educator from the United States, Daniel Irizarry Osorio, exploring the theme “The Plasticity of the Musical Theater Actor: Movement, Acting, Singing.” During the creative process, they examined the relationship between movement, acting, and vocal expression, using Federico García Lorca’s drama Blood Wedding (Bodas de sangre) as their main source of inspiration.
The week was filled with energy, creativity, and new challenges — an intense period that required not only professional skill and emotional sensitivity but also openness to experimentation. Sincere thanks go to Daniel Irizarry Osorio for his ability to inspire, unite the group toward a common goal, and at the same time allow each student to express their individuality.
The decision to reinterpret Lorca’s work through a contemporary lens proved remarkably successful. The performance featured expressive movement, distinctive characters, and strong emotional tension. Texts were delivered in Lithuanian, Spanish, and English, and the audience was particularly moved by a sensitive and imaginative rendition of a traditional Lithuanian lullaby.
Each student stood out in their own way, contributing to the artistic whole through their movement and creative vision. The nearly ninety-minute performance seemed to pass in an instant — many audience members commented that it felt as though only ten minutes had gone by.
This event demonstrated how guest lecturers open up boundless creative possibilities and provide students with an invaluable artistic and educational experience.
